When I start to think about all of this, I wonder: do I trust Apple? Google? Microsoft? Anyone? As I delve deeper into this rabbit hole, I consider installing Linux on my PC, moving “off-grid” in terms of FAANG services, and self-hosting everything. Then I think about the sheer effort involved in doing that. One day, it will happen, but for now, it’s one service at a time. Mail is semi-done with Fastmail. Next will be smart home stuff (the new apartment will have HomeAssistant first), and then maybe photo backup (looking at you, Ente). It sucks to have to think about and do all of this.

Sometimes I put my phone in a case (it’s 99% of the time the dbrand grip case because it’s just too good and too grippy not to use it) and my phone usage changes. When it’s in the case it feels more like a tool, but when I take it out of the case it’s just a nicely designed object. I fidget with naked phone much more than I do with a grippy case. Interesting observation. Today it is in a case, but on the weekend it’s going to be a case off situation. This was a post about me using a case sometimes. I do think about such things too much.

That’s the issue with PC’s that can’t be moved easily – it’s too hot for me to sit in the office and I had to move out to the living room (because it has AC) and now I’m on my old (M1) Mac. Also – this Mac works perfectly fine but get’s hot when under heavy load. I still love it though.
